Sponsor: A Girl Who Reads

I love my sponsors! I love even more when they’re a kindred spirit.
A Girl Who Reads is a blog about one of my favorite things, BOOKS!

“Welcome to A Girl Who Reads, a place that we hope will become a home for every woman who loves a good book. There is a simple joy in picking up a book, to dive into a whole new world without leaving your home. Here I will write book reviews, share book news, ponder literature and generally just want to talk about reading with you. I would love it if you grabbed yourself a cuppa and explored.
An important note, here we do not care how you read your books. We’ve heard the paperback v. eReader arguments but this is a safe space where we do not judge people for how they choose to read their books (as long as they read them). A Girl Who Reads has more paperbacks than space to store them but also loads of books on our Kindle’s. So lets say no more about it.” — About A Girl Who Reads

I love that there are people in this world that love books as much as I do. People who want to share books and enjoy discussing literature with people — no matter the format that they read in! I am partial to paperbacks but I love how easy it is to have my books on my tablet with me at all times!

She writes great reviews and she does something that I really love. When she reviews it she tells you whether or not she recommends it for various groups of people… and TELLS YOU WHY! So for example, she reviewed Seven Letters From Paris. Would she Recommend it for a book club? “As a book no, this doesn’t have the deeper content for a book club. That said I enjoyed that all of the seven letters that the book are named after aren’t all given to you at the very start but spaced throughout – that stylistic choice would be interesting to talk to a book club about.” I love that.

Alys has written some GREAT Gift Guides that I wanted to share with you guys as well.

This one made me happy – I’m always looking for new children’s books!
SUCH GREAT BOOKS!!!

Game of Thrones: To Read Or Not To Read?

So, I miss GoT. Like, a lot. I’m having major withdrawals. I’ve been toying with the idea of reading the books so I can get my fix… but I’m scared that if I read the books, I’ll hate the show. Or … rather, I’ll be mad at the show for not being EXACTLY like the books. I am kind of at this horrible spot where I don’t know what I should do. I have the books, I could just sit down and read them and I know I’d love them, but.. What if it ruins the show? That would be so sad! I don’t know what to do! Have any of my readers read the books? Do you still like the show? Should I read the books?? HELP ME MAKE A DECISION! I’m just so torn!

Fun facts for those who watch both Doctor Who and GoT:
Remember  the episode “Human Nature”?

 Baines!
Viserys!
and and and
Latimer!
Jojen!
I was watching that episode the other day and had totally forgotten that they were in it. It made me really, really happy. Also, Harry Llyod (Viserys) plays such a great bad guy! His face… perfection.
Back to the main point of this post – Should I read GoT or should I wait for the show to finish and then read it? Thoughts? Comments? Questions?

Books and Video Games

Books.
I have this problem when it comes to reading…
I devour my books. As in.. I usually read them in about a day. This is both terrible and great. Terrible because I always suffer from a book hangover and great because I get to start a new book .. every other day or so. Some of my blogging friends have been talking about their summer reading list and I’ve realized that I don’t have a summer reading list…
HELP!
What books should I put on my list?

Also, let’s just talk about this steam summer sale.
My ever growing game backlog is getting ridiculous.
This summer sale is killing me…
 So far I’ve purchased:
Bioshock
Bioshock 2
Bioshock Infinite
World of Goo
Bastion
Portal
Portal 2
Terraria
Don’t Starve
Castle Crashers
Battleblock Theatre
and
I’m trying to convince myself I don’t need:
Brothers
Gone Home
Child of Light
Mass Effect
The Fall
and
Dragon Age: Origins
What games have you gotten so far??

Fictional Character Crushes

I think we all have some fictional character crushes. Sometimes we can’t exactly explain why we have these crushes but they’re there. It can be their appearance, their personality and if you’re lucky, it’s both.

I thought I’d share a list (in no particular order) of some of mine!

    Howl – Howl’s Moving Castle

I feel like I need to say that I have a crush on THIS Howl. He’s figured out what he wants to protect and then when he gets his heart back from Calcifer.  Ohhh. ❤

Sokka – Avatar: The Last Airbender

    via

Sokka is just a giant goofball. I love it.

    Sora – Kingdom Hearts

    via

Sora was one of my first video game character crushes. I can’t really explain it. I think it’s honestly just his amazing hair.

Loki – Thor & The Avengers

    via

     via

Oh Loki. Such a noble villain. He just wants what he’s been promised. What girl doesn’t have a soft spot for a sexy baddie?

Link – The Legend of Zelda

     via

This is the game that got me into gaming. I had such a major crush on Link. I remember correcting people very early on that this is in fact Link and not Zelda.

Jack Frost – Rise of the Guardians

    via

What a beautiful character Jack Frost is. His personality is just perfect.

    Luna Lovegood – Harry Potter

     via

Isn’t she just adorable? Don’t you just want to give her a hug? She’s quirky and cute.

    Sabrial – The Abhorsen Trilogy

     via

If you haven’t read these books – DO IT NOW! Sabriel is just an amazing book. I’ve read it probably a hundred times and enjoy it more and more each time. Seriously, if you haven’t read them you should. I cannot even tell you how much I love them. It has a strong female character and great companion that you’ll love to death. Garth Nix is an amazing writer.  Here is a link to buy the books:

    Rose Tyler – Doctor Who

    via

I can’t be the only one that cried on the Doomsday episode… I just can’t. She loved the Doctor so much. I love her.

    Hermione Granger – Harry Potter

      via

I love a girl with brains and Hermione definitely has them. She’s not only a babe but also such a smart witch.

Do we share any of the same fictional crushes? What are some of your fictional crushes?

      Harry Potter

I’ve been re-reading the Harry Potter series (for the millionth time) and decided that I’d share some of my favorite quotes. I don’t think I realized how much I love Dumbledore until I started writing out the quotes. He’s just such an amazing character. I love him.

      via

      1.       “To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.” – Albus Dumbledore

      2.       “It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” –Albus Dumbledore

      3.       “Fear of a name increase fear of a thing itself.” – Albus Dumbledore

      4.       “Humans have a knack for choosing precisely the things that are worst for them.” – Albus Dumbledore

      5.       “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that.” – Albus Dumbledore

      6.       “It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends” – Albus Dumbledore

      7.       “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” – Sirius Black

      8.       “The truth… it is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution.” – Albus Dumbledore

      9.       “I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.” – Harry Potter

      10.   “The ones that love us never really leave us. You can always find them… in here.” –Sirius Black

      11.   “We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.” –Albus Dumbledore

      12.   “What’s comin’ will come and we’ll meet it when it does.” –Hagrid

      13.    “Always” –Severus Snape

      14.   “All was well.”
